One 60-day voyage circling Australia is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an older woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a pause. The liner departed without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission found her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, together with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and staff on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".
